An Adventurer's Dream

4 out of 5 giraffes recommend this blog

I’m Back! :)

First of all, I want to note that I am still alive.

Second, I apologize for not keeping up with my daily posts for the March of Happiness and for not updating more quickly. It has been hectic and I had no time while I was in Japan to do anything at all with regard to my blog. I am finally getting some time to sit down and write a post, in which I do realize that I have a lot to catch up on.

First of all, to March of Happiness. I was going to try and set up the posts before I left for Spring Break, but I was so bogged down by schoolwork and travel preparation that I was unable to do that. Instead, I’ll make a list now and let you see all that has made me happy since the last time I posted on her.

  • Day 8: Music
  • Day 9: Safe Flights
  • Day 10: Japan
  • Day 11: Beppu Hot Springs
  • Day 12: Tea Ceremony
  • Day 13: Shopping
  • Day 14: Travel
  • Day 15: Hello Kitty
  • Day 16: Freedom
  • Day 17: St. Edward’s
  • Day 18: Sleep
  • Day 19: Clockwork Princess
  • Day 20: Japanese Food
  • Day 21: Chinese Food
  • Day 22: Warmth

I’ll give you some better posts for the rest of the month, so please bear with me as I continue to post about March.

Next, Japan. There are no words that can appropriately say how wonderful Japan is. I really enjoyed my week spent there. While we were eternally busy  – half of the day with school-planned activities and then half of the day hanging with our Buddies (students from the school there) – it was great to be involved in so many things. We went on business trips (got to see Nissan cars being built!), did cultural activities (tea ceremony, flower arrangement, meditation, etc.), shopping (they have amazing malls, bee tee dubs – mall plus a grocery store installed!), and lots of food experimenting. I had been extremely nervous about the food at first; when you think of Japanese food, fish and shellfish is the first thing you probably think of (I mean, sushi, hellooooo). Dead wrong. There’s so much good food – real ramen, cucumber sushi, beef sushi, miso soup, rice, banana ice cream crepes (those were heaven!)… The list goes on. Korean food – totally there, too. I didn’t realize that Korean Barbecue has metal chopsticks. Those are the coolest! And the Buddies, the students from APU that went to events and other things with us, were absolutely amazing. I made some wonderful friends. Also, let me tell you that there is a theme park called Harmonyland outside of Beppu. Guess what the theme park is for? Hello Kitty. Yeah, you read that correctly. HELLO. KITTY. Honestly, that theme park was way more amazing than I was thinking. And so much Hello Kitty.

Needless to say, I had a great time in Japan. I cried several times because I had to say goodbye to my new friends and goodbye to the country. I really hope that I get the chance to travel again someday, and definitely to Beppu – or Japan in general. If you get the chance to go there, definitely grab that chance and take it. Travel. Even if it’s not Japan. Travel where you can.

Did anyone else have a good Spring Break? Or relaxing? I hope you did! Please, feel free to share the adventures you went on over the break.

March of Happiness: Day Seven

Day Six (oops, I meant seven!), and still going strong.

My favorite animal used to be the dolphin. It’s a really lovely creature, supposedly the most intelligent as well. However, a little writing website called Young Writers Society changed my favorite animal to… the giraffe! It was a sort of inside joke, so it’s really stuck with me.

However, I’ve grown addicted. I have a giraffe stuffed animal (and a mini keychain version of him), a giraffe Pillow Pet, a wooden giraffe at home, among other things. One of my friends even gave me blanket that feels like a cloud – and it’s also giraffe print.

I don’t know why the little buggers are so wonderful. They just are. And I really would love to have a giraffe zoo one day, just for me to go out and pet them. It won’t ever happen, but I still think it’d be pretty cool.

Giraffes make me happy. I hope they make you happy, too.

Do you have a favorite animal that makes you happy?

March of Happiness: Day Six

I have three words that are the subject of today’s post: Pretty. Little. Liars.

Honestly, I don’t know how I got so wrapped up in this show. It’s absolutely amazing – even though I want to (and maybe I actually do it) scream at the girls for whatever silly choices they make. But they’re still pretty amazing.

Pretty Little Liars is something that makes me happy. I get excited every week that it comes on, because I am so eager to find out what happens next. The next episode will be a little upsetting for me – I’ll be in Japan and there is no wi-fi in the dorms we are staying in. Fortunately, I already have plans with my PLL buddy to watch both that episode and the season finale the week I get back.

Do you have a television show that makes you happy? Something you are always excited to watch?

March of Happiness: Day Five

If you open the covers of a book and delve deep into the pages, swimming in the words that litter the paper and breathing in the adventure that the story tells, you can, for a moment, escape into another world. It’s not as if you’ve completely left this world, no. You’ve merely managed to hide away in the pages. But that is definitely good enough.

Reading is one of my favorite things to do. There is just something wonderful in being able to live another person’s life and battle evil-doers through the words on the page. It’s absolutely thrilling, and I hope that you think the same.

If you ask me what my favorite book is, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I have far too many books that I love and it would be unfair to choose one that ultimately reigns above the others. Instead, I’ll give you a shortened version of the list of books/book series that I love to live in:

  • The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
  • The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
  • Kissed by An Angel series by Elizabeth Chandler
  • Gallagher Girl series by Ally Carter
  • Heist Society series by Ally Carter
  • Fallen series by Lauren Kate
  • All of the books I’ve been able to read by Sarah Dessen
  • The Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick
  • The Olympian Books by Rick Riordan
  • Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

The list goes on, but I’ll leave it at that for now. I’m sure you can all understand why I would pick books and reading for my happiness of the day. It’s my best hobby and a big part of my life (especially since I love to write, but that’s for another time). And shouldn’t a passion make you happy?

Do you like to read? Or do you have another passion? What’s yours?

March of Happiness: Day Three

I am definitely late on this post, but I thought I’ll send it out while I’m still up. Yes, I am awake at one in the morning, but I have very good reason. And that reason is homework.

My happiness for the day is my friends. I seriously don’t know where I would be without all of the wonderful people I have in my life. Having good friends is such a great support in life. If you need someone to have your back, you know just who you can count on to help you. And if even if they miss you, they’ll definitely help pick you up from the fall.

March of Happiness: Day One

It’s my first day of March of Happiness. If you’re confused at all, just go to my last post and it’ll fill you in a bit. It’s really exciting to be doing this. I’ve even made a thing on my wall to post each day’s happiness of choice so I can look at it and see all the happy things in my life. I think it’s good to know that there are a lot of happy things.

So, what is my first day? I chose my roommate, Ashley, because she’s been such a great person! We started the year off with a very dramatic note, but it only helped bring us closer together. Now, we’re best friends. Be jealous.

Anyway, she’s helped me through some tough times during the school year and it’s great to have such a supportive friend. If she hadn’t been here, I don’t know if I would have adapted to the entire college-away-from-home thing as well. Plus, it really helps that we have a lot in common – I mean, who else would I be able to act fully crazy around?

What’s one thing that makes you happy?
